GRLZradio is a unique,...

youth leadership and development program that utilizes broadcast journalism, blogging, video production, and social media content management as catalysts for personal growth and social change. Our program model consists of three diverse, collaborative and inclusive program offerings: GRLZradio, GRLZwrite, and GRLZcom. Through our original program, GRLZradio, our teens develop and produce their own fun, informative, and socially-conscious radio shows. In our GRLZwrite program, teens take part in our creative writing and blogging curriculum, publishing their own original short stories, poems, and opinion pieces on our website. Finally, through our newest offering, GRLZcom, participants impressively create and edit trendy video content for YouTube, while managing the content on our social media platforms.

GRLZ Radio is also an innovative mentoring program for teen girls in Boston that offers support and assistance with academic success, college readiness, job training, and leadership opportunities by training more than 190 teen girls annually in all aspects of radio production, social media management, video editing, and blogging. Outcomes of this innovative model include: 100% of participants that graduate high school are accepted into college, they receive professional level experience in all three program offerings, and more than 80% of participants report increased self-esteem and self-efficacy annually. Proudly, GRLZradio is one of the eight programs of St. Mary’s Center for Women and Children.
